October brings plenty of ways to enjoy Amsterdam, from music festivals and pop-ups to food experiences and outdoor fun.
The Closet Pop-Up takes place on 10 and 11 October at Tweede Hugo de Grootstraat 27 from 12:00 to 19:00, with free entry. Browse fashion, chat with local designers and pick up unique pieces for your wardrobe.
Wispe Oktoberfest runs from 10 to 12 October at Wispe Brewery in Weesp (Herengracht 16). Experience an authentic German-style beer hall with pints of beer, bratwurst, pretzels, polka music, and live performances. Friday evening requires tickets, while Saturday and Sunday are open for all. Dress in lederhosen or a dirndl for the full festive experience.
Music lovers won’t want to miss Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE) from 22 to 26 October, celebrating its 30th edition alongside Amsterdam’s 750th birthday. With 200+ stages and 2,500+ artists, ADE covers everything from techno, house and drum 'n' bass to hip-hop and experimental electronic music. Highlights include Awakenings Hard Openings Night at Sugar Factory, Verknipt Openings Party at AFAS Live, DGTL at NDSM Warehouse, and Loveland pres. Mahmut Orhan & Friends at Theatre Amsterdam.
The Amsterdam Marathon on 19 October celebrates its 50th edition and the city’s 750th anniversary. The scenic route starts and finishes at the Olympic Stadium, passes under the Rijksmuseum, winds through Vondelpark and follows the Amstel river. Great spectator spots include the Olympic Stadium, Stadhouderskade near the Rijksmuseum, and Vondelpark. Start time is 09:00 until 17:00.
Board game enthusiasts can join the 24-hour board game marathon at OBA Roelof Hartplein and Amsterdice from 14 to 16 October. Beginners and pros alike can try out a variety of games, test new releases, and enjoy snacks and drinks throughout the day and night.
Culture and creativity
Art lovers should visit the Artus Quellinus exhibition at the Royal Palace on Dam Square, running until 27 October. Over 100 sculptures by the master sculptor behind the palace are on display, with weekend drawing sessions available to study the details of his work.

The IJhallen flea market returns on 11 and 12 October at NDSM, while Pure Market brings artisanal produce to Amsterdamse Bos (5 October), Amstelpark (12 October) and Park Frankendael (26 October).
