April 2026 in Amsterdam: Festivals, Flowers and Spring Energy

What’s On in Amsterdam in April 2026
April is one of the most exciting times to experience Amsterdam, as the city fully transitions into spring. With tulips in bloom, festivals across every district, and major national celebrations, the capital offers a dynamic mix of culture, nightlife and outdoor experiences.
As the weather improves, locals and students alike take to the streets, parks and event spaces, making April a vibrant and social month in the city.
Spring in full bloom: tulips and cherry blossoms
From 1 April onwards, the Tulip Festival Amsterdam transforms Amsterdam into an open-air exhibition. With tulips spread across more than 100 locations — from public squares and bridges to museum gardens — the city becomes a colourful celebration of Dutch spring.
At the same time, early April marks the start of cherry blossom season in Amsterdamse Bos. Blossom Park (Bloesempark) is one of the most popular spots, where visitors gather under pink canopies of Japanese sakura trees. As the bloom only lasts a short time, it is one of the most special seasonal experiences in the city.
For those looking to explore beyond Amsterdam, many take a short trip to Keukenhof, one of the world’s most famous flower gardens, located just outside the city.
Early April: electronic music and creative events
The month begins with a strong focus on music and creative culture. Over Easter weekend, Verknipt is hosting three warehouse specials, bringing industrial and electronic sounds to one of Amsterdam’s iconic club venues.
Over Easter weekend, the NDSM Docklands host DGTL Festival, one of the city’s leading electronic music festivals. Known for its innovative stage design and forward-thinking line-up, the festival combines music, art and sustainability in a unique industrial setting.
That same weekend, the Sunday Market at Westergas offers a more relaxed atmosphere, with food, design and local products creating a vibrant daytime experience.
Mid-April: festivals, food and culture
From 16 to 18 April, the NDSM area once again becomes a hub of activity during the Amsterdam Coffee Festival. The event brings together top baristas, roasters and coffee lovers for tastings, workshops and live demonstrations, alongside music and social events.
King’s Day: the biggest celebration of the year
The highlight of April arrives on 27 April, when the Netherlands celebrates King’s Day. Across Amsterdam, the city turns orange as streets, canals and parks fill with music, markets and celebrations.
Major events include large-scale festivals such as Kingsland Festival at the Olympisch Stadion and electronic music events across the city, alongside countless street parties and open-air gatherings.
On 27 April, Free Your Mind and Oranjebloesem join forces for one of Amsterdam’s biggest King’s Day events, bringing a full day of electronic music and festival energy.
It is one of the most iconic cultural experiences in the Netherlands and a must-see moment for international students.
