Wittenborg University does well in the National Student Survey 2014 and improves on last year with an overall score of 7.5!
Results from the 2014 National Student Survey (NSE) measuring students’ satisfaction shows WUAS did not only improve on its score from last year, but also beat the national average as far as its students are concerned. 2013 also showed that Wittenborg students are working hard to make Apeldoorn a great place to live, work and study!
In 12 of the 17 categories Wittenborg fared above the national average. The scale of the scores ranged from 0 to 5 (best). By converting the scores to a scale of 1 to 10, the university scored 7,5 - exceeding it own score of 7,38 from last year.
Students were questioned on topics ranging from study content, skills of lecturers, student accommodation, facilities and class-size.
More students also indicated they would recommend Wittenborg to family, friends and colleagues (7,70) than last year (7,34).
One of the categories where Wittenborg scored above average were study content, including an improved mark on the question of whether content matched the student’s expectations and the quality of the study material.
Students were also happy with lecturers, including their field expertise, accessibility and feedback although there was a drop from last year.
Other categories where Wittenborg scored above the national average were study facilities, the size of classes and groups, workload, the supply of information, timetables, the measuring of performance such as exams, study facilities as well as the research and general capacity within the university.
Areas which could be improved compared with the national average had notably more to do with the location of the university rather than itself. This included the availability and affordability of student accommodation as well as the need for more diverse cultural and entertaining facilities.
Wittenborg director, Maggie Feng, indicated in an interview earlier this year that better quality accommodation is definitely on the agenda for 2014. In the NSE result students did report an improvement in the availability of accommodation in Apeldoorn, where the university is located, though it is still below the national average. Students were also satisfied with the accessibility of the university in terms of public transport.
The National Student Survey involves large-scale national research, organized by Studiekeuze123 and commissioned by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science and the higher education institutions, in which every year, all students within higher education are invited to cast their opinion on the programme(s) of their university.

De nationale studenten enquête is een grootschalig onderzoek georganiseerd door studiekeuze123 in opdracht van het Ministerie van Onderwijs, Cultuur en Wetenschap. Ieder jaar krijgen studenten in Nederland een uitnodiging om mee te werken aan dit onderzoek en hun 
mening te geven over hun instelling en opleiding. Vandaag zijn officieel de resultaten van de Nationale Studenten Enquête 2014 bekend gemaakt. De NSE doet jaarlijks onderzoek naar de tevredenheid van studenten over hun opleiding. Dit jaar is WUAS niet alleen verbeterd ten opzichte van vorig jaar, maar ook ten opzichte van het nationale gemiddelde.
Studenten in heel Nederland is gevraagd hun mening te geven over verschillende aspecten rondom hun studie zoals de inhoud van het programma, de vakbekwaamheid van de docenten, studentenhuisvesting, faciliteiten en klassengrootte.
Op 12 van de 17 categorieën scoort Wittenborg hoger dan het nationaal gemiddelde. Bij het omzetten van de scores uit de enquête naar een rapportcijfer tussen de 1 en 10 scoort Wittenborg een 7,5. Dit is een verbetering ten opzichte van de score van 7,38 uit 2013.Ook de bereidwilligheid van studenten om Wittenborg aan te bevelen bij vrienden, familie en collega’s is gestegen van 7,34 in 2013 naar 7,70 in 2014.
De inhoud van het studieprogramma is een van de categorieën waar Wittenborg bovengemiddeld scoort. Student zijn voornamelijk positiever over de aansluiting van het studiemateriaal bij de inhoud en de verwachtingen van het programma. Andere categorieën waar Wittenborg boven gemiddeld scoorde waren studiefaciliteiten, de grootte van de klassen en werkgroepen, studielast, informatievoorziening, roosters en de kwaliteit van het toetsen en beoordelen.
Onderdelen waar Wittenborg nog kan groeien hadden over het algemeen meer te maken met de locatie van de school en de omliggende faciliteiten. Daartoe behoren ook beschikbaarheid en betaalbaarheid van studentenhuisvesting en het cultureel aanbod.
Bestuurder van Wittenborg, Maggie Feng, gaf begin dit jaar al aan dat studentenhuisvesting hoog op de agenda staat. In de resultaten van de NSE komt naar voren dat de beschikbaarheid van huisvesting in Apeldoorn enigszins is verbeterd maar de resultaten liggen nog wel onder het landelijk gemiddelde. Wel zijn studenten zeer positief over de centrale locatie van de school. De feedback van studenten door middel van de nationale studenten enquête wordt door Wittenborg zeer gewaardeerd en alle resultaten worden mee genomen in de strategische planning voor het komende jaar.
