Experience Amsterdam at Its Best This June

Summer is in full swing in Amsterdam in June, with long days, lively terraces and a packed calendar of outdoor festivals, cultural events and neighbourhood activities. One of the best ways to see the city is by boat on the canals, but walking through the streets, parks and local events can be just as rewarding.

Food & Events

Bite of Amsterdam (19 to 21 June) returns to Amstelpark with top chefs, tasting dishes and international cuisine in an outdoor festival setting. Another highlight is the Schinkel District Block Party on 18 June, a neighbourhood street party with DJs, food, drinks and games.

Festivals & Music

Amsterdam hosts a wide range of festivals throughout June, including Summer Breeze (weekly Latin nights), Red Light Jazz Festival (5 to 7 June), Festifest (6 June), 909 Festival (7 June), Tropikali Festival (13 June), Mystic Garden (20 June) and Amsterdam Roots Festival (28 June). The programme spans electronic music, jazz, world music and cultural performances.

Outdoor Culture

Every Sunday, Jazz @ H’ART Museum offers live performances in a courtyard garden setting in the city centre. From 19 to 21 June, Open Garden Days gives access to more than 30 private gardens across Amsterdam that are normally closed to the public.

Markets

June also features several popular markets, including IJ-Hallen Flea Market (27 to 28 June), Museum Market (21 June), Pure Market (14 June and 28 June), Antique Market (26 June) and Sunday Market at Westergas (28 June).

Final Tip

A canal cruise is one of the most popular ways to explore Amsterdam in summer, but walking through neighbourhoods, visiting parks, markets and outdoor festivals are just as enjoyable ways to experience the city.
