Dr Angela M Benson is a Principal Lecturer in Tourism at the School of Service Management, University of Brighton where she has been since January 2004 having previously held the position of Senior Lecturer at the Southampton SOLENT University (1995 – 2004).

Biography

Dr Angela M Benson is a Principal Lecturer in Tourism at the School of Sport and Service Management, University of Brighton where she has been since January 2004. More recently Angela has been seconded to the Brighton Doctoral College as Director of Post Graduate Studies to implement the Integrated Doctoral Framework.

Prior to coming to Brighton she held the position of Senior Lecturer at the Southampton SOLENT University (1995 – 2004); previous to her career as an academic she worked for 13 years in sport, leisure and recreation. She is the Founding Chair of the Volunteer Tourism Research Group on behalf of the Association for Tourism and Leisure Education (ATLAS); Adjunct Associate Professor of the University of Canberra; Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society with IBG and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Angela has recently been appointed by the International Standards Office (ISO) as the convener for the International Volunteer Tourism Standard that is currently being developed.
