Wittenborg meets Cooperative Education IBA students of ANGELL Akademie in Freiburg - Wittenborg and ANGELL have worked together in the creation of an academic top-up programme for students in the Cooperative Education IBA programme, offered at the institute in Freiburg, Southern Germany. Students from ANGELL's IBA are given the opportunity to complete a final year top-up with credit transfer at Wittenborg in Apeldoorn. Students from Freiburg can choose 4 of the Wittenborg IBA pathways - Hospitality Management, Marketing & Communication, Real Estate Management and a new specialisation - Sport and Event Management.
The Cooperative Education IBA programme in Germany is a 180 credit, 3 year Bachelor of Business Administration, that combines periods of work with periods of study. The programme is offered from the IBA International Berufsakademie - a University of Cooperative Education - at 12 different campuses in Germany, including Freiburg. A University of Cooperative Education in Germany is similar to a "cooperative Hogeschool" in the Netherlands, that offers dual learning programmes, known in Dutch as Duaal Opleidingen.
WUP 25/3/2013 - New Dutch Immigration Act (Law) to come in from June 1st 2013 - The Modern Migration Policy Act - Almost two years later than planned, the Modern Migration Policy Act will be implemented, which brings with it benefits for students and more stringent control measures for higher education institutes. The new Act brings a more easy, simplified Visa and Residence Permit Application process, merging the two into one single application. Also, an international student will now be issued with a residence permit that is valid for a much longer period than 1 year, which saves them, from having to renew it every year, which in turn makes study in the Netherlands cheaper for them.
I wonder whether international students achieve more in life than students who didn't take that giant step in studying abroad . Have there been longitudinal studies? From my own experience as a teacher and lecturer in higher education, I think that students who do more than just study, so called extra curriculum activities, experience more and get more out of their life than those who just do their job. This is especially so for those who want to get a taste of different cultures.
A few times a year you may read somewhere that there is a possibility to make a trip as a student to another country, usually in a class-free period. Sometimes you also can get even some credits for it. Almost two years ago two colleagues and I accompanied two groups of students for a trip to Kenya. Our students received support from students of the MOI University in Eldoret, who also did this during their holiday. They still communicate via Facebook.
WUP 19/3/2013 - Bachelor of Business in Economics and Management still the most popular IBA programme at Wittenborg University. With still two blocks to go (and two entry points for the Bachelor in International Business Administration), Economics and Management remains the number one pathway, followed by Marketing and Communication and Hospitality Management. Current students explain that the reason for choosing the broad business programme is that they want to keep all options open when choosing their Master Degree Programme, or applying for positions.
The International Business Administration (IBA) field of Economics and Management is the broadest of the selection of the IBA Bachelor Programmes, offering a range of business subjects enabling students to understand management from an international and organisational, economy based perspective. Students are introduced to aspects of entrepreneurship, also in relation to sociology, business psychology and intercultural management. Knowledge of how the economy works has become essential to businesses around the world. The notion that the way in which companies and organisations, consumers and governments make decisions that will affect the operation, performance and eventual success of a firm has been imbedded within business administration, which makes the IBA programme Economics and Management the broadest business degree offered by Wittenborg University. Economics concerns the conduct of business within the local social and political environment, looking at the conduct of business, government policy-making, laws and restrictions and the enormous changes taking place within Europe, Americas, Asia, Africa and the rest of the world.
