Saskia Harkema combines practical experience with an academic background. She has a degree in Sociology and Business Administration. Additionally she obtained her PhD on the basis of research into ways of improving innovation and renewal within organizations. She has developed into an expert in the field of Entrepreneurship, Innovation & Change management.
Saskia combines her academic expertise with knowledge about and experience in management within SME’s and Multinationals like Philips and Sara Lee.
Saskia grew up in South America (Brazil, Argentina and Colombia) and this has had a great influence on her development and choices in life. Her working career shows her multifaceted talents and skills. She started her career as a consultant and later international project manager Europe at Philips Lighting. Here she acquired hands-on and academic experience in the broad field of international marketing, innovation and project management. Later she received a degree in Business Administration from the University of Bradford and made a switch to academia and education. In 2004 she finished her PhD at the University of Nyenrode in The Netherlands. In the course of the years she has become an expert in innovation and entrepreneurship with both hands-on and academic experience. She developed several (international) innovative programs funded by the EU, developed and managed 4-year European projects and carried out longitudinal research in different sectors (ICT, Services, Manufacturing, Construction, Legal Services, Food & Flowers) which has resulted in a large number of publications and a number of books. She has set up a Foundation – Faces of Change – to support political refugees in participating in society and the labor market.
Fluent in Spanish, English, Dutch and to a lesser extent in Portugese, Saskia strongly believes in the power of diversity and importance of developing an inclusive society.
